Body oriented therapy

Traditional medicine and biology consider the body as a complex technical device, and divide it into systems and subsystems. However, the fact that man is an indivisible whole, the close relationship of his body and soul ("soma" and "psyche"), guess the ancient. Even Hippocrates said that it is impossible to treat two different patients the same medicine, and the Romans noted that in a healthy body lives a healthy mind …

In the XX century, a new branch of science — psychology, from which gradually stood out direction Psychology corporeality.

"Body Language" (neverbalika) tells us to 85% of the information about the other person.

If psychoanalysis works with memories and associations, gestalt — with unfinished relationships, the area of focus of physical therapy are the physical manifestation of inner psychic reality. This means that the body — a thin wire of our feelings and emotions, desires and secret thoughts.

From childhood

To express the harmonious unity of the animal and rational principles, the ancient Greeks used the image of a centaur — a mythical polucheloveka-Half-Horse. Unfortunately, modern man like a centaur in early childhood.

6-7 years, he still feels the full unity with the body. But with school-age children often love is not "just a whole", but on certain conditions: for example, for obedience and good grades. The emergence of "conditional love" — is the first cause for the conflict of mind and body, rational knowledge and intuition of the mind and the senses. In adolescence, when under the influence of hormones body beginning to change, this conflict is exacerbated (especially if the change in appearance does not like a teenager).

Growing up, we see ourselves through a set of specific movements, gestures and body reactions that are habitually invisible. In 25-30 years, going up to a mirror, we probably will critically evaluate the individual parts of the body (face, hair, hips, abdomen …) than we note that in the mirror "lives" our own "I". Thus, our view overlooks many external manifestations, which were once a defensive reaction, but it is now bodily habit.

Personal habits are formed rapidly (and often!) — Under the influence of fear or threats. So, our parents could ever pull up or shame us, calling "to behave as befits a boy / girl." And as adults, we restrain ourselves and criticize when our desires and aspirations do not match the image of the "right boy" or "good girl."

Unwritten and unpronounceable out loud, but no less influential traditions adopted in the family and school, many years retain their power over us, and will certainly manifest in the body. The child who is taught from childhood to be afraid of, accustomed shallow and almost imperceptible breath and softly say. Himself a man grows up, but fears that constrain their freedom of expression, remain with him. The victim of ridicule at school often puts on a "muscular armor". Chronically tense back, neck and press, impenetrable mask face "hard" legs — get a sort of knight clad in armor fused.

Perceiving his current image as something given "by nature", we do not suspect that they themselves are its creators. On the body, like a book, you can read the entire biography of the man, and even to predict its behavior. However, the law has retroactive effect: recognizing and changing their personal habits, we can change the image of the "I" and achieve true harmony in life.

The body, let's be friends!

  1. Study yourself through your body. Rediscover how you are breathing (deep or shallow, abdomen or chest, slowly or rapidly), look at how other people (openly, defiantly, avoiding eye contact), both moving (slowly, fitfully, embarrassing). Remember how you react to aggression (voltage in the hands and feet, shivering, by the desire to run away, etc etc.). Notice how you show your feelings. What feelings do you know how to express, and which are forbidden for you?
  2. Find a personal gesture that gives you strength and confidence. This may be a "flap" (hands raised up and bred in hand, like the wings of a soaring bird, resulting in the body energized, relaxed chest, breathing becomes easier), or "strike of the sword" (simulated movement of a warrior, raising his sword, and the there is tension in the hands, feet firmly rooted to the ground, which may symbolize the determination), etc. Remember it and each time you want to quickly come to an active state, consciously play. The body immediately mobilized.
  3. In contrast to the mind, the body never lies. Remember that it does not betray you when something in him was disintegrating. It only draws your attention to the problem. Thank your body for the tip and give yourself time to understand what's going on with you and around you.
  4. To improve skills in working with the body, you can visit the training of body-oriented direction. As a rule, any of them have the opportunity during the first session to meet other participants and with the style of the coaches. Then, decide whether you want to work with the body under their supervision. Remember that the credibility of the leading training — the first rule of choosing any program.

Do body

Like any other type of psychotherapy, physical helps to discover, to understand the cause and remedy the serious internal conflicts, often rooted in the distant past.

Here are working with the feelings (grief, joy, fear), feelings (pain, cold, pressure), processes (breathing, heart beat), structure (thinness, obesity, lethargy, flexibility etc etc) and pulses (signals the body that occur suddenly and to encourage any action: to move, to touch, to run away and t n).

Solid therapist does not cure in the traditional sense of the word. It helps a person understand how he moves, looks, breathes, speaks, listens, feels. "Telesnik" acquaints us with our same bodily habits, opens their eyes to the root cause — limiting attitudes and beliefs, which we unconsciously adhere.

Then we have to change the habitual movements, say, posture, or the depth and rate of breathing, and in my head everything will fall into place. It would seem, what could be easier? But in fact, the results were noticeable, have worked long and hard to work on yourself. The one who got rid of the habit of biting his nails, understands what is at stake.
