More than 400 recent earthquakes in Nevada

April 28. According to statements by NASA, a series of earthquakes shook the ground near Hawthorne, Nevada. Weak to medium-strength earthquake concentrated near Mount Buller, in a radius of 10 km? (4 sq. Miles). More than 400 earthquakes with a magnitude of 1.0 to 4.6 on the Richter scale have been recorded since April 10.

The map shows the epicenters of earthquakes (marked with white circles) that took place from March 5 to April 27, 2011. Map is superimposed on the image made from the satellite 19 September 2002 on a small hill slightly greened earth colored yellowish-brown color, while the mountain range Vassek covered with dark green forest land. Several abandoned mines, located in Hawthorne, marked light scarring, and lava flowing down the slopes of the mud volcano is colored dark gray. The image was taken with the tool Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM +), on board the Landsat 7 satellite. Although the earthquake occurred near the volcanic field, Aurora-Bodie, they refer to the tectonic and not volcanic, and there is no sign of an impending eruption. Geologists distinguish between tectonic and volcanic earthquakes wave indicators seismograph. High-performance with a clear introduction, reminding hit the drum, are tectonic. Prolonged earthquake low or medium frequency, similar to a long note, are volcanic.

A series of earthquakes in Hawthorne located in a zone of tectonic basin and the mountain range, which is a flat lowland, located between the linear chains of mountains, stretching from the Sierra Nevada to the west, to the east of central Utah. Such a complex terrain associated with the North American lithosphere, which continues to rise, expand and refine. Expanding lithosphere provokes frequent earthquakes and volcanic phenomena that occur from time to time in the area.
