South America dominated by lingering showers

South America dominated by lingering showers

Uruguay Weather Service estimates that in Paso del Cerro, Tacuarembo, in less than a week, 334 mm of rain fell. This is approximately three times the monthly norm of precipitation for this area. As the rains subside, the authorities made the evacuation of over two thousand people from the departments of Artigas, Rivera, Salto, Tacuarembo and Paysandu.
In neighboring Argentina, most affected by the excessive rainfall was Entre Rios province, which borders with Uruguay. The region urgently evacuated dozens of families. Reported impressive loss of crops that have been recently planted in the fields.
Argentine farmers count the losses occurred in the hope that the damage will not be so large as to lead to bankruptcy. The only redeeming feature in this situation was that the showers in the north preceded sowing soybean and certain types of grain. This means that the soil is well moistened and the new crop can be particularly rich.
Vintage 2011/2012 has been poor because of the drought, which has a negative impact on export opportunities in Argentina, always one of the world's leading providers of soy and corn. If in 2013, will be able to collect a rich harvest, it can make the price of grain in the world more stable (in the current year, the situation on the grain market was critical, because in the main producing countries, the U.S., Australia and Argentina — there was a drought).
