At St. Petersburg shipyard "Severnaya Verf" is a process of modernization and preparations for the construction of surface warships, the production of which in Russia is not carried out since the 1990's. This was reported by Andrey Fomichev, who is CEO of the company.
Earlier, Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky was reported that plans to build a long-term ocean-going ship with a destroyer-type nuclear power plant. February 17 this year, "Severnaya Verf" received a license, which shall entitle the build ships with nuclear reactors.
Fomichev said that, indeed, the plant received a certificate for the implementation of such production and ready to execute a promising new orders in accordance with the state armament program and state defense order. According to the CEO of the company, now the "Severnaya Verf" can work with nuclear power plants. He noted that the plant will start small: with the possibility of manufacturing mining equipment for nuclear power plants, pipelines and fittings.
Fomichev also noted that the "Severnaya Verf" there are plans for further development, the production is in the process of modernization. According to the CEO, the company has been able to expand the width of the hangar bays (from 24.5 to 27.5 m), the maximum length of the boathouse is 180 meters are now ready even to the construction of the cruiser, Fomichev added.
He recalled that during the Soviet era at the factory were built two ships of the first rank in the year. According to the director of the plant, now it is possible to achieve the same rate of construction and the further conduct building ships for civilian customers.
