In Poland, on the Grunwald field, during an official part of the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the victory of the soldiers of the Polish Crown and the ON over the Crusaders. The event was attended, among others, the presidents of Poland and Lithuania, as well as European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek.
Speaking at the Grunwald field Jerzy Buzek spoke about the contribution of this event in European history.
"It was a victory for the peoples of this part of Europe over the well-organized West. But you have to remember about the impact of the battle on
European history, it is essential today, because now we are building our common European identity "
In turn elected president of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski said:
"The memory of the victory at Grunwald often used instrumentally to the needs of specific
regimes and in particular political purposes. Today we must say that every one of us, every nation, every generation has the right to and even the duty, to understand their own history and to look for that it is important when thinking about the present and the future "
The main event of the celebrations — the reconstruction of the battle with the participation of about 2,200 soldiers from across Europe, including and from Belarus (400) — will start on Saturday at 15:00, Minsk time.
