Residents of eight villages in Karelia remained without electricity because of snowfall

Residents of five more communities in Karelia were without electricity due to heavy snow and fallen trees on power lines, said on Saturday Regional GUMCHS.

"Only in Karelia as of 11:00 Saturday without electricity are 478 residential buildings, which are home to 1,898 people, there are seven socially important facilities (two boilers, two schools, two kindergartens, water abstraction)," — said in a statement.

According to MOE, power outages occurred due to wet snow on electrical wires, trees falling on power lines and high winds.

Outage occurred in the village of Luusalmi Kalevala region (107 houses, a kindergarten and a school), part of the settlement Vidlitsa (18 houses) and towns Suojärvi Loimola area (210 homes), Leppesyurya (56 houses), ALT (12 houses), Suistamo (44 home), Soanlahti (15 houses) and the village Rutte Sortavala region (16 homes).

On Friday, January 13, due to severe weather conditions remained without electricity 42 settlements of Karelia. In the restoration of power supply has been involved 103 people and 29 vehicles.
