Belarus and the United Nations signed an agreement on cooperation

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the United Nations signed an agreement on cooperation and on legal status in Belarus representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, BelTA informs.

With Belarus' document was signed by Interior Anatoly Kuleshov, the UN — United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guteresh, who has arrived in Minsk on a two-day visit.

On today in view of the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), UN Office in Belarus is about 9 million people. It is officially recognized refugees and people seeking asylum. Approximately 7,800 of them are stateless. Directly legal and material assistance the UNHCR receive around 400 people.

From 1995, UNHCR has funded projects in Belarus by about $ 7 million. Now the country's two projects in cooperation with the European Union. The first is aimed at reducing the integration of refugees in Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. Its budget amounts to 609 thousand euros. The second project — is to increase the efficiency of the division of migratory flows and work with them at the border and within the country with a budget of over 880 million Euros — BelaPAN.

Since 1997, Belarus to apply for asylum or subsidiary protection filed nearly 3.5 million people from 48 countries. As of June 1, refugee status granted in Belarus 819 foreigners.
