Patomsky crater — cone of crushed limestone boulders on the hillside Patomskoye Plateau in the Irkutsk region. Discovered in 1949 by geologist Vadim Kolpakov. The height of about 40 m, the crest diameter — 76 m cone crowned flat top which is the annular shaft. Already in 2006 it was found that Patomsky crater is a circular structure with a clearly expressed zoning, which reflects the continued education of its main structural elements: 1) the outer slope of the cone, 2) the annular shaft 3) circular ditch and 4) central peak. The crater is located among the clastic-carbonate rocks of Proterozoic and the Mariinsky suite is a material cones, composed mainly of limestone, but there are also other rocks: sandstone, metamorphic schists, feldspar and quartz-carbonate veins.

The mapping of the crater found that the most elevated part of it — the ring shaft — is divided down in shallow relief in two parts. Early on, formed the inner shaft, composed of strongly weathered gray limestone. Among these there are isolated blocks of limestone metamorphosed shales and sandstones, often quartzitic. They grow some larch. Outer ring Late Shaft complex dark gray massive crystalline limestone, weathering processes have been subject to little, and it larch missing. Patomsky crater formed over an extended period of about 500 years ago, and its formation is due to endogenous processes, in which the main role played by the deep flow of gas and fluid flow components. As a result, in clastic rocks formed mineral association of carbonate minerals, calcite, siderite, ankerite, fluorite.
