The court upheld the declaration of independence of Kosovo

Court of Justice in The Hague declared that the declaration of independence of Kosovo from Serbia, which was adopted in 2008, did not violate international law.

Serbiya, which considers Kosovo the birthplace of Serbian national identity, has lost control over Kosovo in 1999, when the NATO bombing ended the war between Serbs and Kosovo's ethnic Albanians.

Today's decision by the Court are advisory in nature, but observers believe that it may have serious consequences in the regions with strong separatist movements.
