Belarus and Lithuania to count on help from the European Union to finance the project of high-speed passenger rail service on the route Minsk-Vilnius.

In May this year the parties reached an agreement on the organization of high-speed passenger rail service between Minsk and Vilnius.
At the first stage it is planned to use its reserves to reduce the residence time of the passengers on the road "with no infrastructure changes." Due to the simplification of customs procedures and the renewal of the trip can be reduced to 2.5 hours.
According to Sivak, to further reduce the time spent on the road, must be modernized, as the Belarusian section to Maladzechna — electrified, and the Lithuanian — no. The Lithuanian side is willing to study the issue of modernization of the road.
