In the international press has been simmering rumor after the publication of more than 90,000 secret documents on the Afghan war, which on July 25 made a site of international media organizations WikiLeaks.org called "Afghan War Diary, 2004-2010" (Afghan War Diary, 2004-2010)
The documents, which the organization WikiLeaks.org also gave the three leading Western publications shed light on some unknown to the general public moments of the Afghan war. Meanwhile, the materials give grounds to suspect that Pakistani intelligence helped the Taliban in Afghanistan against U.S. and NATO forces.
We bring you the interview snippets, which gave our radio Esanzh Julian (Julian Assange), Founder WikiLeaks.org.
Radio Liberty: What do you say to those voices from Pakistan, who have questioned the veracity of "Afghan War Diary", published on the website WikiLeaks.org. In particular, Hamid Gul, a former Pakistani intelligence chief, said that these reports — fakes.
Julian Esanzh: We need to look at these reports discerning eye. It is a large volume of material. It 91,000 reports from the field and army units from the embassies involved in Afghanistan, and by intelligence officers of the informants. Informants do his reports for the money. The U.S. government pays them dasylanne serious information. And they make these reports is to get rid of some rival (the hated enemy neighbor or family), or to actually provide the necessary information.
If we look at the material received from informants, we can see that the U.S. military attributed to each of them the label on its probability. And we will see that most of the reports for the Pakistani intelligence. Of course, any of them may be false, as any of these can be true. But just looking at this large amount of material of a relatively large number of different circumstances in which the Pakistani intelligence emerges, the person has a strong suspicion about the role of intelligence in Afghanistan.
Radio Liberty: In Pakistan, there is a rumor, warmed some Pakistani officials that the leak was organized by the U.S. government to justify the large military presence in Pakistan, or even capture in Pakistan.
Julian Esanzh: This is simply not true. People are able to read these reports, learn about the different parts and different circumstances associate themselves with one another. And before the rumor went, that we — the CIA, but WikiLeaks.org released information from the instructions on
Management prison at Guantanamo Bay, e-mail address of the candidate for the vice-presidential Sarah Palin on classified briefings regarding Chinese censorship of killings of officials in Kenya and East Timor. From this it follows that we treat everyone impartially and publish all those who have difficulties with the publication of his material.
Radio Liberty: Or WikiLeaks.org received threats that against her will to use violence or prosecution?
Julian Esanzh: As for this particular case, we have not received notification of a court order or legal action either against us or against our corporate partners.
You know, because we are a serious organization, we sometimes get a serious threat. In relation to this issue was not physical threats. Here it comes to espionage, and we heard some disturbing signals from the U.S. administration a month ago, in private. They seem to have stopped, but it is too early to draw conclusions about the reaction to the publication.
Radio Liberty: Why did you decide to share this information with the New York Times, The Guardian i Der Spiegel?
Julian Esanzh: Sources of our information, we promise two things: first, we will do everything in our power from a technical and legal point of view, to maintain their anonymity, and secondly, we will try to make as much public exposure of the material handed down to us. We believe that in this case we have chosen the right way to increase this impact.
Radio Liberty: Why do you think so many important sources agreed to submit their information to you, not the traditional media?
Julian Esanzh: Because we — the specialists. We — the specialists in ahovvanni our sources. We — the specialists in the supply of solid material public. As for the major traditional media, the process of internal concentration proved in some
countries to a situation in which one city, only one or two dominant media organizations in which these organizations rather impose the reins to his sources than cherish them. It brought to the situation in which an organization like New York Times keeps a secret vital information throughout the year and does not publish it at all, or publish one a few raisins from the fact that she received from confidential informant, rather than publish all material in the documents received.
Radio Liberty: What, in your opinion, is the WikiLeaks.org — journalism, social activism or a new kind of mediation between information sources and journalists?
Julian Esanzh: The idea behind this is actually a very old. To make sound decisions, you need to know what is really going on, and to make good decisions, you need to know and understand what abuses or plans for abuses are being made. As a technologist, we understand that the important reforms come after the public and the politicians understand what is really going on.
