Only in the United States from breast cancer kills nearly 45,000 women. And, if before the disease develops mostly in women older than 50 years, but now it is much "younger" — cases of the disease in their forties, thirties, and even twenty years is not uncommon.

Causes

The exact cause of breast cancer is still unknown. However, scientists have identified a whole group of risk factors that have a significant risk of provoking the disease. For example, working with sources of radiation, elevated levels of female sex hormones (estrogens), bad heredity (breast cancer in close relatives), disruption of the thyroid or adrenal glands, etc.

What's going on?

Mutated cells begin to proliferate and cancer tumor, respectively, begins to rise. Without treatment, it is rapidly growing in size, grows into the skin, muscles, and (or) the chest wall. Through the lymph vessels cancer cells get into the nearest lymph nodes. From the bloodstream, they spread throughout the body, giving rise to new tumors — metastasis.

Most breast cancer metastasizes to the lungs, liver, bone, brain. The defeat of these bodies, as well as the collapse of the tumor and leads to death.

As suspected?

Breast cancer, like all cancers, it is desirable to identify as early as possible while there is still a chance for a cure.

Woman, taking care of their health, should regularly engage in self-examination of their breasts: osmotrivat them and to probe. Only in this case, it will be able to notice the seal appears in the breast — the main and often the only sign of breast cancer. Most often painless seal, size and texture does not change during the menstrual cycle.

Also, during the self-study should pay attention to:

  • the shape of the nipple;
  • the emergence of "dimples" on the skin, while lifting arms above the head;
  • change in shape of the breast;
  • changes in the structure of the breast to the touch;
  • persistent discomfort in one breast;
  • occurrence of bleeding from the nipple;
  • swelling of the lymph nodes under the arm on that side.

A more accurate method for early diagnosis of breast cancer — a mammogram (breast x-ray). After 40 years of this study should be carried out every year, even if the woman did not care.
