Emergencies Ministry warns of rise in water level in the rivers of Sakhalin to 1.5 meters

EMERCOM of Russia on Sakhalin warned residents south of the region of a possible rise in water level in the rivers up to 1.5 meters, it is forecast for Wednesday and the next day, told RIA Novosti on Wednesday, the press service of the Ministry.

According to forecasters, on Wednesday in Dolinsky, Kholmsk, Aniva, Nevel, Korsakov, Makarov, Tomari, Uglegorsk, Poronayskiy (including Vakhrushev), Alexandrovsk-Sakhalinsk, Smirnykhovsky Tymovsk and regions as well as in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk expect strong rain (15-29 millimeters).

"On Wednesday and the next day on the rivers of the southern and central parts of the island of Sakhalin expected sharp rise in water levels at 0.5-1.5 meters … EMERCOM Russia's Sakhalin region warned that there could be disruptions to transportation and other facilities economy. Residents of areas should limit travel outside populated areas for the duration of warning, "- said the source.

According to him, the administration of these districts sent urgent warnings. Strength and the means necessary to eliminate possible effects of the cyclone, are ready to respond. The situation relating to the passage of the cyclone, is controlled by the duty shift of the Center for Crisis Management (CMC) MES of Russia in the Sakhalin region.

Last Tuesday, in Dolinsky, Kholmsk, Aniva, Nevel, Korsakov and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk experienced heavy rains (15-29 millimeters). As a result of rising water levels in the river were flooded Lopatinka few houses of the village Gornozavodsk. Rescuers evacuated 24 people caught in the drain.

In August, in the Sakhalin region dominated several rain storms. Storm warnings for heavy rainfall in Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands were declared 10, 13, 16 and 19 August.
