4.3-magnitude earthquake occurred in northern Italy

An earthquake measuring 4.3 occurred last night in northern Italy in the Emilia Romagna region, said Tuesday the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.

According to seismologists, a series of nine earthquakes of medium strength began at 03.48 local time (05.48 MSK) in the province of Modena, and lasted about an hour. The epicenter was located near the town of Carpi, the focus lies at a depth of 10.8 kilometers.

Tremors were felt in many towns of Emilia-Romagna, and in Florence, Venice and Treviso. According to witnesses, they have caused panic in some tents, organized after the devastating earthquake on 20 and 29 May in the Emilia-Romagna.
