Institution of the Russian Academy of Sciences Joint Institute for High Temperatures dates back to 1960 — the year of the Laboratory for High Temperatures, Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In recent years, High Temperatures, Russian Academy of Sciences formed a new branch of physics — physics of plasmas. The current interest in dusty plasma is related to the processes of self-organization and the formation of ordered structures, the so-called plasma-dust crystals. A special place is occupied by the pioneering work on the study of dusty plasma in microgravity carried out on board the International Space Station. The Institute is working on plasma medicine, to develop methods for generating a plasma for decontamination and treatment of extensive infected wounds.
