Accra, Oct. 27 / Xinhua / — The national coordinator of the anti-disaster Ghanaian Kofi Portufi Wednesday told Xinhua reporters that as a result of flooding caused by heavy rains in the capital, Accra-nine people were killed and dozens injured.
Ghanaian President John Atta Mills has recently made an inspection tour of the settlements that were affected by floods, and expressed his sympathy to the affected people, and promised that the Government will make every effort in order to help them overcome difficulties.
Heavy rains came with a late night October 25 to October 26 in the morning and caused flooding, which resulted in hundreds of demolished homes, destroyed roads and bridges. According to preliminary data, it is natural flood caused damage to more than one million U.S. dollars.
Organization to address natural disasters in the early morning of October 26 started the search and rescue work. Raised out of the water bodies of nine people, 240 people were rescued.
