P-30 «Bulava» — a Russian sea-based ICBMs

First, in 2013 the Ministry of Defense has adopted the newest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) sea-based P-30 «Bulava», the development of which lasted 15 years.

Go with «Bulava» in the Navy and went nuclear submarine «Yury Dolgoruky», which together with the newest rocket for a few decades will be the basis of marine nuclear triad of, said the press service of the Defense Ministry.

Intercontinental ballistic missile sea-based P-30 «Bulava» began to develop in 1998, after the rejection of the draft R-39UTTH «Bark», which at that time was 70 percent ready. Bad tests and the highest price put on the rocket «Bark» cross, and the Defense rolled project in favor of the «Bulava».

Range «Mace» is about eight thousand kilometers (In general, during the test, this figure was exceeded by more than a thousand kilometers). Missile launch weight — 36.8 tons, and throw — 1.8 tons.

Ballistic missile capable of carrying eight to 10 nuclear warheads personal guidance up to 150 kilotons each. «Bulava» armed and missile defense system to overcome the enemy — namely, incorrect warheads.

Lenta.ru edition was chronicling the development and testing «Bulava».

Start of development

Capital Institute of Thermal began in 1998 for the development of promising solid-fuel ballistic missile sea-based «Bulava».

Assumed that the structural elements of «Mace» Commonality will be with the next development institute — ICBM «Topol-M».

December 11, 2003. Zero start

Test history «Mace» began in December 2003, when a nuclear submarine «Dmitry Donskoy» Project 941UM «Shark» weight and size was launched model rockets on the surface.

A year later — in September 2004 — mock «Mace» experienced underwater. The purpose of these test «throwing» test was to check the output mechanism rockets from the mine; launches were successful.

September 27, 2005. «Bulava» up at the start

First test firing «Mace» held on 27 September 2005. Latest ballistic missile launched from the submarine «Dmitry Donskoy» of the waters of the White Sea from the freeboard provisions.

«Bulava» 14 minutes flew by 5.5 thousand kilometers and hit targets on the Kura test site. The launch was considered successful despite the failure of the third stage of the rocket.

December 21, 2005. Underwater launch

First time «Bulava» did not give misfires — and underwater launch with «Dmitry Donskoy» in late 2005 was a success.

Goal, as before, were placed on the Kura test site, «Dmitry Donskoy» during start-up did not stop moving.

September 7, 2006 — December 24, 2006. 1st woes

Immediately three starts in the fall and winter of 2006 ended for the «Bulava» failure. September 7 solid propellant missile after launch from a submerged position deviated from the course of a minute.

Slightly more than she spent in the air and on October 25. Launching December 24 was also unsuccessful — after three or four Minutka rocket off course and self-destructed because of the failure of the third stage.
June 28, 2007 — November 11, 2007. Conditionally successfully

After a string of failed launches «Bulava» eventually able to successfully carry out the flight. August 28, 2007 the missile was launched from a submerged position with the submarine «Dmitry Donskoy», but only two have gained purpose warhead of 3 because of what tests admitted conditionally successful.

Subsequent launch — November 11, 2007 — was again bad: spent rocket in the air for about 20 seconds. Information on this run came in the media particles.

September 18, 2008 — November 28, 2008. Loose success

In November 2008, launched from a submerged position «Bulava» made the first flight of a hundred percent in the nominal mode. Earlier starts and if admitted as a whole successful, were not without linings.

Two months before the successful start «Bulava» gave a misfire at the stage of divorce warheads — rumored then used a new type of combat units.

Turned bad and start at the end of 2008, when the missile self-destructed after the failure of the third stage.

2009 hard to call for «Mace» successful — the first tests in July ended a self destruct because of problems in managing the system. December tests remembered even better, though also not been successful.

First two stages of «Mace» worked fine, but the third worked nonstandard — and in the criteria of the polar night sky over Norway spawned an unusual twist glow.
Adversity left «Bulava» only 5 years after the start of the test.

In 2010 it was decided to test three missiles produced under serious control in one cycle; date starts not once transferred from the summer at a later date, and ultimately to the end of the year only two were launched «Bulava» — But both with satisfactory results.

In addition, 2010 was the last for the Union «Bulava» and submarine «Dmitry Donskoy».

June 28, 2011. «Bulava» and «Yuri Dolgoruky»

In 2011, the «Bulava» moved to the nuclear submarines of Project 955, a private carrier staff and myself — have not yet adopted on adopted submarine «Yury Dolgoruky».

Tests as previously planned spending of the waters of the White Sea to the Kura test site, and the first of them is on the newest submarine proved to be successful — in spite of the repeated transfer of launch.

August 27, 2011. Distance record

Second launch in 2011 was not done on the Kamchatka polygon, and the district in the Pacific Ocean; its purpose was to test the range of acts «Bulava».

Tests were in the normal mode, and the missile flew 9,300 km — 1,300 km more than its initial estimated range of acts.
In December, «Bulava» took part in yet another key step test — submarine «Yury Dolgoruky» produced salvo launch 2-ballistic missile from the waters of the White Sea to the Kura test site.

Tests were found to be quite successful, and December 27, 2011 Dmitry Medvedev, who was then president of Russia, announced the completion of the test programs from «Mace» and early adoption of missiles on board.

July 29, 2012. Pending

«Bulava» and its support — the submarine project «Borey» — Had to adopt in 2012, with the date of this action is once tolerated.

Solemn ceremony of admission to the Navy «Mace» submarines and «Alexander Nevsky» was scheduled for July 30 — a day the Navy, but not accomplished during the summer and later in the year, because the military decided to conduct additional tests of the submarine systems and interaction with weapons.

January 10, 2013 goda.Prinyata adopted

At the beginning of 2013 — 10 January — «Mace» finally entered service of the Navy. On the same day taking ceremony was accomplished strategic submarine «Yury Dolgoruky» project «Northwind», on which he will have the «Bulava».

Submarine project «Borey» with R-30 missile «Bulava», according to the Ministry of Defense, will be the base of the marine component of the nuclear triad of in 30-40 years after adopting the latest submarines such type.
