Pentagon tests robotic submarines hunters
Defense science agency DARPA announced the successful testing of 2-unmanned underwater vehicles designed to detect submarines. DASH brand new system will be automatic and combined: distributed detectors find the submarine and send them unmanned.

One of the main component of the system is a network of deep-DASH autonomous sonar entitled TRAPS. Passive sonar TRAPS will be located in specific locations on the days of the ocean and will be able to contact the network nodes on the surface using a wireless acoustic modem that sends audio signals similar to «knock» sonar, which can be heard in films about submarines second World War. So Makar, formed a network of passive sensors that can detect the sound of a submarine and pass it coordinates the control center. Sensor network TRAPS make worthless different «dummy» jammers and, besides, it will be hard to kill all at once.

In DARPA no secret that the network TRAPS — it’s a real techno adventure. For example, while hard to say whether autonomous sonar able to work on the sea days are quite long, as firmly link will work, if the network is not hacked enemy hackers, etc. Yet, dignity which gives such a network, justify all the dangers.

The second component of the system DASH — is deep bot SHARK, similar to a huge yellowish torpedo. He resettled active sonar, and is designed to establish the precise whereabouts of the enemy submarine, even if it’s days are lurking on and shut down the reactor. SHARK originally planned to run with the existing submarines and surface ships, but in the future such devices will be absolutely autonomous and will be able to refuel without the help of others.

Details about the device, the range of stroke and other properties SHARK DARPA representatives do not sound. But judging by the size of the bot even existing developments electric ship he can go under water for more than 40-50 km. Of course, it would be enough just to work around the narrow straits and in limited areas of the world ocean, so that serial SHARK require new sources of energy.

In the near future the Pentagon pays special attention to combating submarines. Already launched a number of projects on the use of unmanned vehicles for detecting submarines, and now worked variant creation of autonomous distributed network which is not to allow the submarines to freely cross the invisible underwater frontiers.
