Destabilization: Scientists have discovered a new unstable region the size of New Jersey under the ice sheet of Antarctica

Using radar equipment, a team of scientists from the U.S. and the UK have discovered a previously unknown sub-glacial basin nearly the size of New Jersey under the West Antarctic ice sheet. The location, shape and texture of the pool a mile deep indicate that this area is in greater danger of collapse than previously thought. Ice loss over the new pool will raise sea levels by several meters in the case if the entire West Antarctic Ice Sheet is destabilized.
