MEP intends to reduce the amount of waste generated per unit of GDP

 Legislative initiatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to eliminate accumulated environmental damage will reduce by 2020 the amount of waste generated per unit of GDP by 1.6 times, said on Wednesday the Minister Sergei Donskoi in the Federation Council.

"Continuous and systematic activities to eliminate the environmental damage associated with past economic activity, will reduce the amount of waste generated per unit of GDP by 1.6 times, to return to the turnover of up to 100 hectares of industrial land, disposed of annually to 12 million tonnes of industrial waste," — said Don.

According to him, the Ministry of Environment has prepared a proposal for the implementation of 50 priority projects, which cost 100 to 230 billion rubles.

"The numbers speak for themselves: by the end of 2011 in Russia has accumulated more than 31 billion tons of waste associated with past economic activity. Moreover, each year on the surface receives about 1 billion cubic meters of waste rock, and the area occupied by waste, growing by 300 -400,000 hectares "- said Don.

As Don said Tuesday at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in February, the ministry intends to make to the government bill on the Elimination of accumulated environmental damage, its adoption can take place before the end of the year. In addition, the Ministry of Environment in 2013, will prepare a federal program with funding of 100 billion to eliminate the accumulated environmental damage.
