June 18, in the building of the Northern Shipping Company inaugurated the Arkhangelsk branch of the Northern Sea Route Administration.
FGKU "The Administration of the Northern Sea Route" was established in March of this year. The opening of the branch was not only another step in the deployment of the administration, but also in recognition of the important role that has played and continues to play in the development of Arkhangelsk in the Arctic.
In recent years there has been a steady increase in the volume of freight traffic on the Northern Sea Route. If two or three years ago, the volume of goods transported by road was 300 thousand tons per year, today this figure has increased more than tenfold. Experts believe that in the future could increase traffic along the Northern Sea Route to ten million tons per year.
The main purpose of the administration of the Northern Sea Route is the safety of navigation in the Arctic. That administration will be responsible for issuing permits for sailing ships in polar waters, the issue of identity ice pilots, hydro-meteorological monitoring, ice and navigation conditions.
