5.2 Earthquake in Japan

17.02.11.Zemletryasenie magnitude 5.2 occurred on Thursday in the south of the Japanese archipelago. Information on casualties or damage were reported. According to the National Meteorological Administration, tsunami threat arose.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located near the island of Okinawa, and focus lies at a depth of 10 km under the ocean floor. The strongest tremors were registered in the city of Nagoya, Naha, Itoman and Ginowan, near the major sites that host U.S. forces.

The Japanese archipelago is located on the junction of four tectonic plates. Every year there are up to 20% of the seating on the earth quake of magnitude 6.0 or higher, according to ITAR-TASS.
