From Alaska Arizona, Arkansas California, Colorado Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas, a fast-moving fire burned about 1.4 million acres in total.
Landowner from Grimes County, Texas, described the scene to HOU as "Apocalypse. I've never seen anything like it. Such a beautiful forest two days ago, and now look at this."
More than 10,000 firefighters are working to battle major fires and work towards containment in the southern states.
Despite the fact that the number of fires in the U.S. this year will be below the 10-year average, the area burned three times in 10 years, on average, according to the US Forest Service.
