Hawaii: Volcanic activity continues in one of the hot spots

May 6, 2011Hawaii — Crater continued slow growth, as lava flows from the new holes on the east side. Floor height climbed to 20 m (66 ft) in the last two weeks. Lava erupting continuously for the last week. No lava that erupts out of the crater. A small, stable lava lake is also present deep within. Volcanic gas emissions remain elevated, resulting in relatively high concentrations of sulfur deoksida. One earthquake beneath the Hawaiian Islands, as reported last week to be felt. Earthquake of magnitude 2.3 occurred at 6:51 pm on Monday, May 2, 2011, and was located 6 km (4 miles) south of Holualoa at a depth of 11 km (7 miles). Hawaii247Hawaii247
