In New Zealand earthquake 5.9


Wellington, Jan. 28 / Xinhua / — New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Research said that this morning in Taupo region, an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, the earthquake did not lead to loss of life and extensive property damage.

The earthquake occurred today at 04:02 local time, the epicenter was located 30 km north of Taupo, hypocenter lies at a depth of 150 km.

It was the second earthquake in the region in Taupo for 24 hours. January 27 at 18:19, an earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was located 40 km east of Taupo, hypocenter — at a depth of 5 km.
