In the west of Indonesia Earthquake 5.7


JAKARTA, Jan. 18 — RIA Novosti, Mikhail Tsyganov. An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale that occurred Tuesday evening near the administrative center of the district of Simeulue in Aceh in the north-west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, is not powerful enough to cause a tsunami, RIA Novosti reported at the National Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics (NUMKG).

However, the epicenter of the quake was located in close proximity — only seven kilometers away — to the south-west of the main city on the island of Simeulue Sinabang. Its center was located at a depth of ten kilometers below the surface of the Indian Ocean.

Information on possible casualties or damage so far.

Early in the morning on Tuesday, more powerful earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale occurred in the Indian Ocean, 115 kilometers south-west of the city in the province Bintuhan Benkulu on the southwest pobrezhe Sumatra.
