Petersburg AEP checks Tianwan NPP seismic resistance

St. Petersburg Research and Design Institute "AEP" (SPb AEP) began conducting stress tests of the first and second units of Tianwan NPP in China.

"The stress test provides an analysis of the stability of nuclear power plants to elevated seismic effects. Experts attribute to extreme exposure to 1.5 times higher than the maximum design earthquake force, considered in the design of aftershocks incorporated in the calculations for the design", — the report says "Atomenergoproekt . " In the first stage of stress tests and a visual inspection of equipment, systems and structures involved in the removal of decay heat from the nuclear fuel in the reactor and fuel pool in the event of extreme seismic impact. After inspecting the power experts "SPbAEP" hold current strength analysis of elements and draw conclusions about the state of security of power during extreme seismic event. Deliverables will be transferred to the customer in November 2013. The first stage of Tianwan, designed by the "AES-91", developed by the St. Petersburg "Atomenergoproekt" consisting of two power plants with VVER-1000, was commissioned in 2007. In the construction of the second stage of Tianwan NPP (the third and fourth blocks) SPbAEP stands designer of the nuclear island.
