The authorities of the Pskov region will install temporary veterinary police checkpoints on the border with Tver, Novgorod and Leningrad region, where reported cases of the disease and mass death of pigs of African swine fever (ASF), told RIA Novosti press-service of the regional administration.
"Temporary positions will be required to prevent the smuggling of animals, feed and animal production in the Pskov region", — said the spokesman, noting that in the Pskov region of cases of ASF is not fixed.
"In the Pskov region developed and implemented an action plan to prevent the emergence and spread of ASF. In particular, the regional administration has allocated additional licenses to hunt wild boar, in order to reduce the number of the beast in half. Checks, including non-routine, specialized farms, marketplaces, hunting leases for compliance with the health legislation, "- said the official.
African swine fever (disease Montgomery) was first recorded in 1903 in South Africa. Under natural conditions, are susceptible to domestic and wild pigs. Infection occurs through contact with sick animals healthy.
The disease poses no threat to human health, but extremely dangerous for the animal, since no cure and vaccine.
