Seismologists predict Kyrgyzstan earthquake similar to the Japanese

Specialists of the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan predicted 9-magnitude earthquake (on a 12-point scale MSK), which may occur in the republic this year.

Meanwhile, according to the agency, deputy director of the Institute of Seismology Mederbek Omuraliev, about 80% of the buildings in Kyrgyzstan do not meet seismic safety standards, and therefore will not withstand a major earthquake.

According to him, the major seismic dangerous zones are located on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
