The sailing vessel Sedov went to his first round-the-world expedition

May 20 in St. Petersburg held a solemn farewell circumnavigation training sailing ship "Sedov" — the flagship of the national and world sailing fleet.

First for the "Gray" round-the-world expedition dedicated the 1150th anniversary of the birth of Russian statehood and memorable dates in the history of geographical discoveries. Trip will last 14 months. Sea Cadets and the Naval School will travel thousands of miles to cross the four oceans.

St. Petersburg Governor noted that the barque "Sedov" trained many generations of Russian sailors. "It is symbolic that the sailing ship" Sedov "goes round the world voyage from St. Petersburg — a city that for centuries is the world center of seafaring, shipbuilding, marine science," — the governor said.

He recalled that the fate of the sailboat is closely related to St. Petersburg. Sailing ship "Sedov" was reconstructed at the Kronstadt sea plant received in St. Petersburg, the second life.
