Tornado in New Zealand: there are victims

The New Zealand North Island today struck a devastating tornado. Brunt of the disaster was in the city of Oakland and its suburbs.

According to a local police Rob Crawford, winds tore roofs of dozens of houses. One of the trade center destroyed. According to incoming reports, one person was killed and there are victims.

The victims of the tornado in New Zealand were two men, 14 wounded

Tornado hit New Zealand's largest city Auckland, two people were killed and 14 were injured, said on Tuesday, Reuters referring to representatives of civil defense.

According to authorities, the brunt of the disaster came in the afternoon, at 13.15 local time the tornado swept through north suburban town of Albany, which caused significant damage to the local supermarket, and then moved south.

Civil Defense reported two dead and a dozen wounded.

"We keep our fingers crossed that the number of casualties has not increased and there was more of the dead" — leads the agency the words Oakland Mayor Len Brown (Len Brown).

According to the agency, a year in New Zealand are carried by about 20 tornadoes, but, as a rule, the damage from them is not great.

The most destructive tornado was reported in 1948 in Hamilton, as a result of rampant disaster killed three people, another 80 were injured. Tornado destroyed about 200 buildings.
