Two earthquakes off the coast of New Zealand

Two strong earthquakes hit the east coast of North Island of New Zealand, on Friday evening, seismologists said. Earthquake broke out as a result of tensions between the Australian and Pacific tectonic plates. Of the damage and casualties were reported. The first earthquake, which occurred at 4 pm local time, had a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale. A few hours later, at 7 pm local time, there was a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 (6.0 USGS) on the Richter scale in the same area at a depth of 40 kilometers (25 miles). Source:Channel 6
