5.9 earthquake off the coast of the Philippines



26.07.2011, 8:01:47 Manila Off the coast of the Philippines was an earthquake of magnitude 5.9. tremors were recorded in 35 km from the provincial g.Ibla Sambales.

The earthquake was located at a depth of 30 km. After the initial hesitation was somewhat weaker aftershocks, the Associated Press, citing a local Center of Volcanology and Seismology.

The Philippines is in a seismically active zone, in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, and earthquakes are occurring regularly. One of the most powerful earthquakes occurred in that country in 1990. Then the tremors of magnitude 6.8 killed more than 1.5 thousand people.
