Costa Rica: floods, landslides

October 17. More than 20 roads closed in 10 regions due to landslides caused by heavy rains that passed last week. According to the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) established a low-pressure system — a harbinger of bad weather. IMN has predicted that conditions will improve on Monday, and rains will stop this week. Consejo Vialidad Nacional de (CONAVI) responsible for the maintenance of road infrastructure, has opened an emergency telephone line for receiving reports of impassable areas. Road to the Poas Volcano and the new highway San-José — two routes were blocked by landslides. Sabanilla, San Isidro, Fraijanes Cerilla and were isolated for several hours. There are also reports of problems in San-Ramon, Puriscal, Acosta-Montes de Oro, Aserri, Parrita, Turrubares, Turrialba, and Osa. Yellow alert level has been declared in the Central and Pacific region.
