Japanese authorities have started to prepare Tokyo to a powerful earthquake,
able to destroy the capital of the island state. As the Prime Minister Hiromufi Hirano, the probability of a natural disaster in the next 30 years is over 70%. This statement was made after researchers conducted a thorough analysis of the seismic activity in the area of Tokyo Bay.
"We need to strengthen all the precautions in the event of a new natural disaster," — said the head of the government. Officially, the threat of an earthquake will be announced in March, a year after the powerful earthquakes and tsunamis have been recorded in the north-east of Japan and led to a nuclear accident NPP "Fukushima-1". In the area of the Japanese capital, seismologists have already installed more than 300 special sensors.
Previously, scientists have said about a possible earthquake in the Tokyo area, but it is expected that it will be much less strong. Now it turned out that joint place two continental tectonic plate on which the Japanese capital, is far above the Earth's surface. According to experts, the brunt of the disaster could lead to the deaths of 11 people and the destruction of thousands of 850 thousand buildings.
Since March 2011, in Tokyo and its vicinity were reported, on average, 1.48 on the day of the earthquake, a magnitude of 3 — 6 points, which is, on average, five times more than last year to March of the tragedy, when the force of tremors reached 9 points.
The last time Tokyo was badly damaged by the earthquake, known as "Tokyo" in 1923. Then the force of impact of elements 7.9 magnitude killed more than 100,000 people. Previously, the city was destroyed by an earthquake in 1855, "Ansei Edo."
Japan is located in a seismically active area called "Pacific Ring of Fire", where the overlap Eurasian, Pacific and Fillipinskaya lithospheric plates, between which there is a constant friction. For this reason, the country is one of the first places in the world for the frequency of earthquakes occurring.
