Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) opened nanotsellyulozy stimulating ability to create a network of nerve cells. This is the first but very important step towards the creation of three-dimensional model of the brain. According to scientists, this model could raise research of brain activity to unprecedented heights.
More than two years for researchers to obtain the growing nerve cells to nanotsellyuloze. According to them, the cells die after a while because they could not manage to adhere to the "assembly" of molecular frame (nanotsellyuloze). But after a series of experiments it was found that for successfully overcoming the problem, make a frame positively charged, and now we can talk about creating a reliable method of culturing nerve cells to nanotsellyuloze. Yes, the same ones that, as we have always said, is not restored. As you can see — this is not true, you just have to choose the right approach.
When nerve cells are completely "stuck" to the frame assembly, they began to develop and produce with each other (!), Called synapses. Gradually eyes appeared artificially derived nervous system of several hundred cells (ready script for a horror movie). Now, scientists can begin to use electricity and chemical signaling substances to generate nerve impulses that spread in much the same manner in which they do it in this brain. It is also possible to study how nerve cells respond to other molecules, for example, medical preparations.
In the meantime, we can state the obvious fact that fellow scientists (if possible, of course) decided to play God and try to create an "artificial brain", which, in their view, would open up entirely new possibilities for the study of the body, and eventually could lead the development of bio-computers.
Now research group is engaged in more mundane matters, so to say, the problems of today. Decided to devote the next phase of the study of degradation of synapses between nerve cells, which is considered one of the earliest symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Scientists plan to grow nerve cells and to study their reaction to cerebrospinal fluid of patients suffering from this disease.
And in the near future, the proposed method of growing cells of nervous tissue may be useful when testing different potential drugs supposedly able to slow down the destruction of synapses.
Scientists also point out that the cultivation of the nerve cells in the nanotsellyuloze it is an important step forward, as the pores created in this material, allow cells to grow in three-dimensional matrix, which makes the process not only the most comfortable for them, but also very close to reality.
