5.1 magnitude earthquake in eastern Iran


MOSCOW, June 27 — RIA Novosti. Earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred on Sunday in eastern Iran, according to a statement on the website of U.S. Geological Service (USGS).

Push came to 23.17 local time (22.47 MSK). The epicenter of the earthquake was located 48 km south-east of the city of Kerman. The earthquake was located at a depth of 37.3 kilometers.

Information about the victims, casualties or damage were reported.

Iran is among the ten most earthquake-prone regions of the world, there is almost every ten years an earthquake with magnitude greater than 7.0. An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 in the city of Bam, located in Kerman province in December 2003 killed more than 31 thousand people, and about 42 thousand were injured.
