7.0 earthquake occurred in Japan



TOKYO, Jan. 1 — RIA Novosti. Earthquake of magnitude 7.0 occurred on Sunday afternoon in the east of Japan, the powerful tremors of up to 4 points on the measurement scale shook the Japanese capital, Tokyo, transfer to local media.

The earthquake occurred at 14.27 local time (09.27 MSK) in 486 km south-east of Tokyo. Hearth tremors occur at depths 371 km.

Tremors to 4 points occurred across the east coast of the main Japanese island of Honshu. According to the National Meteorological Agency of Japan, the strongest aftershocks were felt in the prefectures of Tokyo, Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Chiba and Kanagawa.

Warning about the threat of a tsunami was not announced yet. The devastation victims and no injuries reported.

An earthquake measuring at least 6.0 is considered strong and can cause widespread destruction of infrastructure and the victims.

In March 2011, Japan's magnitude 9 earthquake occurred followed the devastating tsunami, whose height exceeds 30 meters in places. The disaster killed and missing are listed more than 19,000 people, with about 93% of those killed were victims of the tsunami.
