In St. Petersburg Polytechnic University are building a research body in which researchers will work in the field of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology.

Construction of the new building is part of the federal target program "Research and development on priority directions of scientific-technological complex of Russia for 2007-2012".

The program was adopted in 2006, its main goal — the development of Russian science base. The program consists of six sections: "Generation of Knowledge", "Development of technologies", "Technology Commercialization", "The institutional framework of research and development" and "Infrastructure Innovation System." Polytech was founded in 1899 and is now part of a group of national research universities in Russia. The university has 20 faculties, six faculties and courses of further education and university has branches in several Russian cities.
