22.01.11.Prodolzhitelnaya drought and problems with water supply infrastructure has led to the fact that in the Cuban capital has developed "the most critical situation in the last half century" in the water, said in a Friday newspaper Granma.
According to the Institute for Water Resources of Cuba, a daily water shortage in Havana is about 328 thousand kubometrov.V Nearly half of the city's population — more than one million people — are regularly experiencing serious problems with water supply. However, about 110 thousand people receive water only from trucks.
More than 70 percent of the water supply network of Havana are in "poor condition", which leads to a significant loss of valuable liquid on the way to the end user. Two reservoirs in the east of the capital — La Zarza and La Coca — is "almost dry" and in the third — Bakuranao — water left for 138 days.
The newspaper has again urged the people and organizations in the country use water as economically and efficiently. "Due to the severity of the situation is assessed the possibility of termination of service of those who exceed the planned limits (water consumption)," — said the publication. To improve the situation, the authorities intend to implement a set of measures, the number of which will include the drilling of new wells and repair the most deteriorated parts of the networks.
