Today is the International Day of the Earth.
The history of this festival is associated with the name of a resident of the Americas, John Morton. In the late 19th century by J. Sterling Morton moved to the territory of the desert plains of Nebraska, lone trees which were cut down heavily on the construction of houses and for firewood. Morton suggested a day dedicated to gardening and to establish a prize for those who land a greater number of trees. This day is called the Day of the tree.
In 1882, Tree Day was declared an official state holiday and was celebrated April 22 — the birthday of Morton. In 1970, — the text published

In Russia, Earth Day is celebrated since 1992.
