Vanuatu earthquake of magnitude 6.9


Wellington, Jan. 9 / Xinhua / — An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale occurred today in the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. This was reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.


Earthquakes have been recorded at 21:03 local time.

The epicenter was located 160 kilometers south of the capital, Port Vila. Hypocenter lies at a depth of 31 km.

Reports of human casualties or property damage have been reported yet.
