20.01.12.Ekologicheskaya planet system is so complex that natural disasters may come back to haunt people and animals in unexpected ways.
This saw wailing whooping cranes. In the first half of the 20th century, this bird was common throughout the United States, but by 1940 due to deforestation and agricultural use of pesticides crane population was virtually wiped out.
In the middle of the last century, 14 animals were taken to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, which is located on the southern United States. Thanks to the efforts of zoologists, the population has increased wailing cranes today to 400 birds. Now whooping cranes live in the wild, but the beautiful white birds again threatened.
Last summer, south of U.S. experienced a record drought in recent years, making the birds who flew to Texas for the winter, faced shortages of food. Because of the drought the water in estuaries and marshes become too salty. This led to the death of blue crabs — the main food whooping cranes.
The drought destroyed as berries, worms and insects, which would eat birds. It seems that the person who has broken the balance of the ecological system once again have to save the beautiful white birds wailing.
