Afghanistan prepares for drought

8.10.11.KABUL — Afghanistan, which is expected this winter drought, asked for help in the amount of U.S. $ 142 million to feed 2.6 million people, according to news reports.

Agriculture Minister Mohammad Asif Rahimi said that the situation is extremely serious: drought affected 14 provinces — about half of the country — in the north and east, reports BBC BBC.

According to him, many farmers have sold the cattle and now depend on food aid, which will be required over the next six months, he said.
