9.10.11.Katastroficheskoe flood that lasts a second month in South-East Asia, has acquired the character of a regional disaster. This is stated in the report of the Asia-Pacific Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian issues at the UN.

The massive flooding of settlements, agricultural land and infrastructure as a result of abnormal seasonal rains occurred almost simultaneously in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, the document says.

Floods in Thailand have suffered more than 2 million people.

At the time of the report in Thailand, where the early and heavy seasonal rains triggered floods that started on July 25, the disaster affected more than two million people in 28 of the 77 provinces of the country, killing more than 240 people, destroyed rice crop nearly a million acres of land.

In Cambodia, where flooding began in mid-August in the north-eastern provinces bordering Thailand, currently flooded 14 provinces out of 24. In the country killed 150 people, affected more than 177,000 families, evacuated more than 17,000 families.

In Vietnam, the Mekong Delta flood killed 11 people, flooded more than 20,000 homes, 5,000 hectares of rice fields. Under the threat of flooding are another 99,000 hectares of agricultural land.

Laos, a mountainous country with a lot of hills, so far suffered the least, according to the paper, but in Laos and in some areas the water rose to a two-meter mark.

In addition to paying a small monetary compensation lost property, the authorities of South East Asia were sent to the disaster areas military units to assist in the evacuation of citizens from the most dangerous areas, and in the provision of citizens in isolated areas flood essentials, food and drinking water. Military medics are also involved in efforts to prevent epidemic diseases associated with floods, and in the streets of cities and towns large amounts of dirty water.

Note, the report warned that in the first two weeks of October the situation in the region may deteriorate due to the expected continuation of the rainfall.
