BEIJING, April 11 — RIA Novosti, Oleg Ostroukhov. More than 6,000 residents of the south-western Chinese province of Sichuan earthquake victims on Sunday, according to Xinhua news agency on Monday citing the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the PRC.
Earthquake of magnitude 5.3 occurred in the county Luho Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province in 17.02 local time (13.02 MSK). The epicenter was located at a depth of seven kilometers.
According to the ministry, tremors damaged more than 5.9 thousand houses in 18 villages. Direct economic losses from the quake was more than 40 million yuan (about 6.1 million dollars).
The devastating 7.9-magnitude earthquake occurred in Sichuan Province in May 2008. , Killing nearly 90,000 people, 370,000 injured, left homeless 5 million inhabitants. After the main quake was followed by more than 10,000 aftershocks. Sichuan earthquake was the strongest in China after the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, which killed about 250 thousand people.
