My first encounter with
from "UTS", known for its innovation in the field of ultra-portable electronics, there was approximately one and a half years ago. Then I tested two very interesting models like no one else DVR, which can be bought in our market. In fairness, I note that while the market is in its infancy, and it was not too much to choose from that. Those models which deserve attention, were imprisoned solely for automotive use. As for the universal models that have petite size and excellent picture quality and interesting functionality, there mAVR recorders were and are out of the competition.
The first model, which I was fortunate enough to meet, called μAVR H.264S. It is characterized by extremely small size and weight of only 32 grams. The second model μAVR H.264×4 has a slightly larger size and weight, but in this case it is possible to install up to four memory cards of up to 32GB each, which can store up to 60 hours of video. It is easy to guess that it is based on a model μAVR H.264×4. It also has four slots for memory cards, allowing you to record more than 60 hours of video in high quality. However, this is not the main thing that I want to say about mAVR H.264×4 TFT. The highlight of this model is the large touch screen. Let me remind you that the base model mAVR H.264×4 was equipped with a small OLED display, which displays only basic information about the current operating mode, recording time, built-in battery and other service information. This is largely hampered the positioning and pointing the camera to the object, so that the user had to do a few test recordings for the "sighting". The only point on which I want to draw attention is the lack of a special car holder on the windscreen. You can certainly experiment with different universal mounts, but I think that if we talk about the use of this model in quality car DVR, it is best to install it in the "glove box" by connecting an external miniature camera with wide viewing angle.
Setting mAVR H.264×4 TFT …
Exploring opportunities mAVR H.264×4 TFT start with the setup that will allow to fully appreciate the potential of the new device.
I note that, in spite of my fears about the use of matte surface of the screen, all the inscriptions are read without problems, including those on the street. The thing is correctly selected the font size and design (black text with a white border).
So, to configure the device can be used as an on-screen menu and a special program manager, which has a little more room. — Linear recording of all cards;
— Circular logging on all cards.
Consider each mode in detail. In the "Linear recording" the user must select the card you want to record on the roller and the recording continues as long as no space on the selected map. If you want to increase the recording time, you can tap on the "Linear recording all the cards." In this case, the record will be maintained consistently on all installed cards.
In the "Loop Recording 1" entry is the same as in the linear recording mode, as long as there is space on the selected card. Then the data will be recorded, erasing the beginning of the current record. The other entries, wherein remain intact. Mode "Cyclic record 2" works differently. At the conclusion of space on the memory card, the data will be stored, overwriting the oldest entries. The last mode is "Loop recording on all memory cards" are very similar to the previous mode, except that after the transition to the next card data will be written from the beginning, overwriting all existing records on it.
Selecting the recording mode depends on the application. For example, if you use mAVR H.264×4 TFT in the car as a security system or to record any random events, such as during a long experiment, when the recording is not precisely known, it is more convenient to choose one of three modes of loop recording. If you just need to remove an event, such as a car ride, paragliding or something else, it is best to use a linear recording mode.
In addition to select the recording mode, see "Record", you can turn on the parallel recording on two memory cards. This unique feature allows for parallel recording simultaneously on two memory cards. There are many situations in which this can be very useful. For example, using mAVR H.264×4 TFT as car DVR. In addition to select the recording mode you can program up to ten timers, which will include scheduled recording. For each timer, you can select specific days of the week, select the date and time of the recording, and recording.

Another unique feature of the DVR series mAVR is the ability to flexibly adjust the audio parameters. Having dealt with the basic features of mAVR H.264×4 TFT can pass the tests. It interested me a few questions.
First of all, I'm interested in the extent to which the device is suitable for use in a variety of conditions. In other words, it is interesting to see how quickly the user can start the manual recording, and how convenient search previously recorded videos.
In this sense, a relatively large screen and a very simple on-screen menus make the recording and playback of data is extremely simple and straightforward. For example, to start the recording process, users simply point the finger at what memory card to record, if necessary, to select the video source (this is a button at the bottom of the screen), and press the record button.
On each icon, symbolizing a particular folder, it shows the level required. This may be helpful when selecting a folder for recording.
The process of finding and watching organized as comfortable as the recording mode. In order to find the desired item, the user has to select the memory card, and then the screen will display a list of entries with the date and time of the recording. Click on the desired entry starts the playback. For the convenience of the records on the computer, every new session is conducted in a separate folder, fragments of 60 seconds. If you watch the recorded videos on the device, it will be played in sequence all of the pieces in this folder.
The second question that interests me, for the quality of the recording. To explore this question, I took a few clips from the camera to the full resolution of 640×480 pixels.
Even though the video compression by YouTube, you can clearly see that the use of built-in mechanisms for auto-white balance, automatic gain control and noise reduction, even in low light, the image quality is at a high level.
Separately want to mention about the quality of the sound recording. To do this, I recorded music from a distance of 5 meters with a smooth change from a very low volume to very high. Please note, built mechanism of automatic gain control worked well as a quiet and very loud.
The quality of the sound recording
The third issue of interest, perhaps, many who watches the market miniature video recorders, for the possibility of the use of mAVR H.264×4 TFT as car DVR. On the one hand, this model is slightly inferior to the traditional car DVR, which is usually installed in front of the windshield on a special mount. And it's not only in the absence of such an attachment to mAVR H.264×4 TFT. Even if you find a certain universal mount, which would place the device in front of the windshield, then use mAVR H.264×4 TFT would be inconvenient. It's all about the location of the screen, which is used to control the device. Other than that, I can not mention the fact that this model does not have built-in GPS tracking and acceleration sensors. The maximum that can be done is to build a frame coordinates, altitude and speed. On the other hand, mAVR H.264×4 TFT has a number of advantages over the usual video recorders. So, if you put it somewhere in the glove box, and connect it to an external small camera with wide viewing angle, you will get car video recorder with a standard picture quality and recording capabilities that are not available in any other DVR.
Last question — battery life. To explore this question, I took the loop recording mode. Obtained in the course of the experiment time (8 hours 4 minutes) corresponds to official information from the manufacturer, which means 8 hours of continuous operation.
If you need more battery life, you can use an external battery, allowing fuel to charge the modern gadgets powered via USB. For example, using the device Funktech FTB11000U, capacity 11000mAh, I was able at times to increase the battery entry.
In my view, the new mAVR H.264×4 TFT successfully completes a series of DVRs mAVR. Adding such a seemingly small things like touch screen, fundamentally changes the understanding of usability and functional device. Now, in order to bridge the lens at the subject or watch the recorded video is not to aim and connect the memory card to the computer. Now all this can be done independently.
No less important was the support of such unique and, in my view, the features as support for four memory cards (up to 60 hours of video), a large number of recording modes, parallel recording on two memory cards, flexible and independent adjustment of recording quality for audio and video streams , built-in motion detection, long battery life, etc., which can be called the mAVR H.264×4 TFT most competent and versatile device on the market of portable video recorders, with which you can solve a wide range of tasks. Of course, like any other device, mAVR H.264×4 TFT is not devoid of drawbacks. In particular, the complexity of use as car DVR, and the inability to create a stand-alone master card with a configuration file. In my opinion, you need to add the ability to automatically create a configuration file if the user has installed the new card into the slot.
The last question that worries everyone who mAVR H.264×4 TFT seemed interesting solution — the price of the device. Just note that to call it cheap, I can not. mAVR H.264×4 TFT worth 19,000 rubles, which is considerably more expensive than conventional DVRs, which can now be bought for as low as 4,000 to 10,000 rubles. However, it is worth remembering that mAVR H.264×4 TFT is classified as professional solutions with as you can see above, a number of unique features that are not found in cheaper models.
