Russian universities are doing their own race cars

This is not Formula 1, but Formula Student — an educational project that allows students at the stage of learning to apply their knowledge in practice. As part of the project, students are engaged in designing and assembling their own cars. Team "Formula Student MAMI" stands for the fifth year in engineering competitions, which conducts the international community of Automotive Engineers.

Total 2007 students from MAMI created five cars. Each new car was getting lighter and more powerful than the previous one. The most advanced of them — IguanaEvo4 participated in many exhibitions and won many victories in the contests and competitions.

17-20 July 2012 a team of "Formula Student MAMI" took part in the Austrian stage of the formula student (FormulaStudentAustria). The machine has successfully passed static test, which presented detailed reports on the technical component of the car (designpresentation), its technical value (costreport) and cost-effectiveness of the project (businesspresentation). During static testing is necessary not only to tell about the applied technical solutions, but also to prove their effectiveness and feasibility. This year's team, "Formula Student MAMI" were the first to take the top spot for the preparation cost report, leaving behind rivals of Europe's leading teams. During the five years of the team planned to this victory was increasing the amount of work performed, and, therefore, the detail of the report.

Participation Team "Formula Student MAMI" in competitions in Austria was the preparatory stage held on the eve of August 1-5, the more prestigious competitions in Germany. They are our students also showed a good result, ahead of teams from the universities of Cambridge, Berlin, Vienna, Toronto, and many others. At the end of the competition the Russian team took 30th place out of 110 overall. That is 20 positions higher in the previous year. The following season, the team is going to take place not less than 20.

Each year the level of competition increases — not a secret that the top teams have long enlisted the help of experts and engineers of the largest automotive holding most of Formula 1, and in order to keep their positions or improve them, we have to work hard throughout the year, but it's worth it ! To do this, put together a new team, focusing on the professional and personal qualities of each participant, which allowed to build a really strong team, aimed at high performance. Were set clear goals, develop a detailed plan of action, allowing to organize the work at a higher level. Enlisting the support of the university and sponsors have taken a new height, and now it's safe to say — this is not the limit! Ahead of the new season, a new team and a new car! Currently, the university students are already working on a new (sixth) improved fireballs. In January 2013 it will begin to build, and in April, aims to test the new machine.

MAMI recognized as the best team in Russia and is able to compete with the strongest European designers. In the world ranking of the team "Formula Student MAMI" takes place 197 out of 510 teams that applied.

Russian student team consists of 35 people, distributed by department: chassis, engine, electrical, economics, design, PR and logistics. The project manager is the rector of the University for Development Timonin Vladimir, the main curator of the project — Pablo Itturalde (MAMI graduate, currently teaches at the University).

In addition to participating in international competitions, in October 2012, the laboratory "Formula Student MAMI" won the competitive selection of two-year project to develop and implement programs for the development of students' research bureau under the federal target program "Scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel of innovative Russia". Grant from the Ministry of Education and Science will equip the modern high-tech lab equipment and computers.
