In 1881, a young American surgeon E.Elay (E. Ely) described the first operation to correct the ears (droopy ears).

Problem: The droopy ears, asymmetrical ears

What to do? Operation to change the shape of the ears (otoplasty).

Operation. Usually under local anesthesia incision on the back of the ear, then the ear cartilage is folded so as to form anthelion, and the angle between the pinna and head down. After superimposed gauze rollers that help the ear "remember" the new form. According to this scheme is performed by plastic Converse-Wood-Smith. Sometimes use the method invented in Japan, when pressed against the ear with a head seam superposed rear, thus avoiding cuts in cartilage.

Contraindications. No specific.

Possible complications. For a thick and non-elastic ear cartilage anthelion freshly created in the postoperative period can stretch out, negating the result of the operation. This happens very rarely, but … use the Japanese method is not recommended for persons with non-elastic cartilage.

The recovery period. The first three days after surgery for Converse-Wood-Smith will be slight pain, then 12-14 days after the operation will have to regularly go to the dressing — during these two weeks, the patient is in addition to the fixing roller bandage. Then the rollers are removed, and another two weeks to wear a bandage (usually performs its role of an elastic bandage). If the cartilage is too elastic, the doctor will recommend another 2-4 weeks to wear a bandage at bedtime. In the case of the operation to the Japanese method you just two weeks come to the clinic to remove the bandage, and to dispense altogether with no ill effects. Operation is possible at any age, but it is better to do as a child.

The problem: the same

What to do? Laser otoplasty.

Operation. Under local anesthesia, behind the auricle with a laser incision of 0.5 cm long then also laser treated cartilage behind the auricle, to form the correct shape. Then the skin suture and worn jersey stripe. The operation takes place without bloodshed. Swelling minimum which passes in a few days.

Contraindications. No.

Possible complications. No specific complications.

The recovery period. Within 6 days, wear knitted strip without removing it at night. On the sixth day of the clinic you remove the stitches.
