Second in terms of recoverable reserves held by the U.S. (58 billion barrels), the third — China (32 billion barrels). Large reserves of oil shale are located in Argentina, Libya, Venezuela and Mexico.

World reserves of this type of non-conventional raw materials valued at 345 billion barrels, which is ten percent of the recoverable reserves of its oil.

The study also estimated reserves of shale gas. For this indicator, the first place is China (31.57 trillion cubic meters), the second — Argentina (22.71 trillion cubic meters), the third — Algeria (20 trillion cubic meters).

United States, where shale gas is now the most advanced, took fourth place with reserves of 18.83 trillion cubic meters. Russian reserves of shale gas was only in ninth place with reserves of eight trillion cubic meters.

Gas-bearing shale resources in the whole world are estimated at 206 trillion cubic meters, accounting for 32 percent of the world's recoverable reserves of natural gas.

In the Russian Federation related to the "shale revolution" is still skeptical. Export monopoly "Gazprom" refuses exploration of shale gas.
